Mortgage Life Insurance
Mortgage Life and Disability Insurance
Buying a home is one of the single largest purchases you will make in your lifetime. At Shirl Funk Mortgages we also believe it is an investment in you and your family’s financial future… an investment that needs to be protected.
Did you know…
- 1 in 3 Canadians will be disabled for 90 days or more before age 65
- 75% of Canadian households would have difficulty paying everyday living expenses if the primary wage earner were to pass away
- 44% of mortgage life insurance and/or disability claims are made in the first 2 years of a mortgage
- 50% of mortgage foreclosures happen due to disability
Mortgage Protection Plan Insurance
Mortgage Protection Insurance protects your investment while helping secure your family’s financial well being in the event of death of you and/or your spouse or a disability causing one of you to not be able to work and therefore earn the income required to make your mortgage payment. Should something tragic result in the passing of you or your spouse, the mortgage on your home would be paid off in full, allowing surviving family members to use other existing insurance to carry on with life, maintain their lifestyle and recover from your loss. The disability insurance makes your mortgage payments for you for up to 2 years in the event that you are injured (not only at work) and cannot attend work. After 60 days of not being able to work, this insurance would start making your mortgage payments for you until you can either go back to work or find an alternative way to pay your mortgage.
Mortgage insurance offered through Shirl Funk Mortgages has some great features that traditional bank mortgage insurance does not provide. This includes portability – so when it is time to renew your mortgage you won’t lose your coverage (or have to re-qualify) no matter how many times you change homes or lenders in the future. Also, premiums will not increase with changes in health or as you age.
With this coverage in place, your mortgage is protected not just in the event of death, but also if a serious accident or illness leaves you unable to work. Most traditional term life policies only cover you in the event of death.
